- ACTFL - American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.
- BVP - Bill Van Patten, a SLA researcher.
- CI - Comprehensible Input. See Technical Terms below.
- CLC - Cambridge Latin Course, a popular reading-method textbook series.
- G/T - Grammar/Translation approach. See Technical Terms below.
- iFLT - International Forum on Language Teaching, a conference held through Fluency Matters.
- L1 - Language 1, a student's first language. When we talk about teaching, we probably mean the chief language of instruction in the school, even if that's not actually the first language for some of our students.
- L2 - Language 2, a student's second or third or fourth etc. language. When we talk about teaching, this usually means the TL.
- LLPSI - Lingua Latina Per Se Illustrata, a textbook by Oerberg using the natural method. Favored by many spoken Latinists for its tantum Latine approach.
- L&S - Lewis & Short, a public domain dictionary of Latin.
- NTPRS - National TPRS, a conference held through TPRS Publishing.
- PBG - Proficiency Based Grading.
- PQA - Personal Question & Answer, a key technique for providing compelling, personalized input for students.
- SLA - Second Language Acquisition.
- SBG - Standards Based Grading.
- TCI - Teaching with Comprehensible Input.
- TL - Target Language, the language being taught (e.g. Latin).
- TPR - Total Physical Response.
- TPRS - Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling.
